Description

Used Trane CGAF 140 SE SN Air-Cooled Chiller for Sale, 467 kW, 2019

This used Trane CGAF 140 SE SN is a 467 kW air-cooled scroll chiller, built in Golbey, France in 2019 and held in stock at our Glasgow yard. Serial number ELC02520, stock number CC25/1255.

The chiller runs on R410A across two independent refrigerant circuits, with three scroll compressors on each circuit. Trane rate the CGAF 140 at 140 tons nominal, giving a net cooling capacity of 467 kW, or around 133 tons of refrigeration, at 12°C in and 7°C out with 35°C ambient air.

Two circuits mean partial cooling stays available if one circuit needs attention. On continuous process duty, that is often the difference between a service visit and a shutdown.

The unit has been inspected and is available for delivery within 3 to 5 working days.

Compresseurs

Six scroll compressors run at 2900 rpm, arranged three per circuit. Trane use unequal compressor sizes between the two circuits on this model, which gives closer capacity control as load drops. Minimum cooling load on the CGAF 140 SE is 15 per cent, so the chiller holds a stable leaving water temperature at low demand rather than cycling.

Heat exchange

The evaporator is a stainless steel and copper brazed plate heat exchanger, with a water content of 48.6 litres and 5 inch grooved water connections.

The condenser uses aluminium microchannel coils, eight coil faces served by eight fans, with 11.84 square metres of face area per circuit. Microchannel construction holds less refrigerant than a traditional tube and fin block, which keeps your F-Gas charge and your leak exposure lower.

Electrical supply

You will need a 400V, 50Hz, three phase supply. The figures below come from the unit nameplate, not from a generic datasheet:

  • Maximum current: 398 A
  • Starting current: 655 A
  • Short circuit rating: 15 kA

Check the starting current against your existing supply before you commit. That is the figure that catches people out on retrofit jobs.

Refrigerant and F-Gas position

The chiller holds 60 kg of R410A, split 30 kg per circuit. R410A has a GWP of 2088, which puts the total charge at 125.3 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

That places the unit in the 50 to 500 tonne band under GB F-Gas rules. You will need leak checks every six months, or every twelve months if a permanent leak detection system is fitted. Our F-Gas registered engineers handle recovery and decommissioning, and the paperwork comes with the unit.

Design pressures are 30.2 bar on the low side, 44.5 bar on the high side and 4 bar on the water side. The compressors run Trane OIL0057E / OIL0058E, 20 litres per circuit.

Integrated pump package

This unit is supplied with Trane’s factory fitted hydraulic module. The overall length of 4890 mm confirms it: the standard CGAF 140 frame is 4520 mm, and the pump package adds 370 mm.

The module covers a centrifugal water pump, a water strainer, an expansion vessel with pressure relief valve, a balancing valve, a drain valve, a temperature sensor and thermal insulation for antifreeze protection.

Buying those parts separately and piping them on site costs money and time. Here they are factory fitted and factory tested.

Operating range

Trane rate the CGAF SE range for ambient air from minus 10°C to plus 46°C as standard.

Leaving water setpoints of 5°C and below require a glycol charge. Trane cap glycol concentration at 40 per cent on units fitted with a pump package. Tell us your leaving water temperature when you enquire and we will confirm what this unit is configured for.

Applications

The CGAF 140 suits process cooling in plastics, food and beverage, pharmaceutical and general manufacturing, alongside building services and comfort cooling in commercial premises. Cold storage and data centre duties are within range, subject to your redundancy requirements.

Transport and access

  • Length 4890 mm
  • Width 2200 mm
  • Height 2526 mm
  • Weight 3500 kg

Measure your access route before you order. The 4890 mm length includes the pump package, which sits proud of the standard frame. We arrange craneage and haulage on request.

Presentation

This chiller comes from a hire fleet and carries ICS Cool Energy livery on the panels. Fleet units are maintained to a schedule and come with a known service history. If you would rather the panels were stripped or resprayed before dispatch, tell us when you enquire.

A used chiller costs less and carries less carbon

A used Trane CGAF 140 costs a fraction of a new equivalent, and it is available now rather than after a manufacturer lead time. It also avoids the carbon locked into building a replacement machine.

Every chiller we sell is leak tested, electrically tested, pressure tested and visually inspected before it leaves us. We deliver across the UK and export worldwide, with crating and documentation handled in house.
